The Right OG Image Size for Every Social Platform

The Open Graph spec says 1200×630px, but each platform has its own rendering quirks. Use the wrong size and your image gets cropped, blurred, or replaced with a blank placeholder. Here's the definitive size guide for every major platform.

Standard OG image: 1200×630px at 1.91:1 ratio

This is the spec-defined size used by Facebook, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, and most link unfurlers. At this size your image will render correctly on the vast majority of platforms without cropping.

Twitter/X: 1200×600px for summary_large_image

X crops to a 2:1 ratio for large image cards. A 1200×600px image fills the card without any cropping. Important: keep critical content (text, logos) away from the edges to account for slight variations in how different clients render the card.

LinkedIn: 1200×627px

LinkedIn uses a slightly taller ratio than standard OG. A 1200×627px image renders without cropping. LinkedIn also requires images to be at least 200×200px to show any preview at all.

File size: keep it under 8MB, ideally under 1MB

The Open Graph spec doesn't enforce a file size limit but most crawlers stop fetching after 8MB. For fast crawling and reliable previews, aim for under 1MB. PNG or JPEG both work — OGImagen outputs optimized PNGs.
